Many of the "Muslims" I've known drank freely, petted dogs freely, and really only stayed officially muslim because of not wanted to deal with islamists wanting to kill them for apostasy, especially if they ever had to go to a muslim country. Islam is a like a violent street gang, you want out you get beat out, or more likely stabbed. Sending the people who follow fatwas underground will let muslim-plated not bother with ever putting their kids near a mosque or keeping a quran at home. Eventually they'll just forget their muslim roots.
