My parents no longer have dogs to keep the varmints away. So they are starting to have squirrels, raccoons, opossums, etc starting to be a nuisance.
They live in an area where I can get away with a few random .22 rounds being fired off but I try to keep things discreet. These squirrels aren’t like the big city squirrels that are easy pickings. I have to sit quietly and hunt them.
I can usually only get one or two shots before they disappear into the woods and bushes on the missed attempts. LOL. I have to make my shots count.
Anyway, I have been taking my Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 to the range to fine tune the sites(Sig Sauer Romeo5 red dot). It has been a lot of fun. I usually take my 9mm and maybe something else to shoot.
I have never been much of a hunter. Most of my guns have become shelf queens as I have gotten older. This has given me a chance to brush up on my gun skills, and an incentive to keep at it.
Technically Spears and Javelins were. The Sword and Bow were both close seconds.
Though there might be general merit towards remainstreaming fencing, Sword Fighting, and other combat sports.
One could also play off the popularity of FPS shooters. Large scale competitive matches. Lasers, Airsoft, or maybe some of the different tech the Army uses maybe for drills? Might be interesting from a sports perspective.
There’s also Armored MMA which is gaining popularity. Which is exactly what it sounds like people dressing up as knights and beating the shit out of each other with assorted Medieval Weapons
Shooting is the original American sport.
Amen.

Keep going!

I'm talking about hunting wild game for meat
Only if we get to hunt communists.
Brass and lead are precious metals, too.
Yeah I think the decline of sports(ball) can be a good thing and isn't necessarily a driver of young men being "soft"
All they need is to lift a little and pick some cardio activity of choice to be more in shape...
Hunting is one activity to replace sports with, I imagine there are a lot of other contenders as well
Nothing can replace hunting.
Hunting is boring.
