If I can recall accurately, a whistleblower FBI Agent assigned to the DC Field Office said the suspect was tracked via DC CCTV surveillance cameras after he had placed the “bombs” at both locations. The suspect then walked to a nearby Metrorail train station where he boarded using his actual Metro pass and took the train to a VA suburb station, where he was observed on CCTV getting into a car and driving away. The cameras caught his license plate, which was registered to a retired USAF E-9. (Horrible tradecraft, IOW.)
This FBI Agent said they sat on the suspect’s house for two to three days and noted no unusual activity. The Agent then asked his supervisor if they could conduct a “knock and talk,” which was up-channeled to FBI HQ, and HQ immediately ordered the Field Office to shut down the investigation.
My best amateur guess is this “E-9” was a Pentagon desk weenie working in either Intel or Security Forces who then landed a ~cushy contractor’s job post-retirement due to the “friends” he made while at the Pentagon. He was probably used as an expendable cut-out to distance any plausible connections to CIA-FBI-DNC shenanigans.
The whole pipe bomb scheme was supposedly a fallback OP if the “riot” at the Capitol failed to produce the desired results to stop the Congressional vote for a pause in certifying the fraudulent 2020 election results. You have to remember that Kamala Harris was supposedly at the DC HQ when the pipe bomb was “discovered.” (I believe Harris later claimed she was at the Capitol when this happened but her itinerary showed otherwise.). Plan B was to use the pipe bomb incident as an attempted assassination on the VP-elect in order to circumvent any election challenges so they could expedite the election certification.
It is hard to believe they can not figure out who this is....when they located innocent people and charged them with nonsense on January 6. This should make us all crazy mad. ......

Bingo. Waved at fellow officers. FBI released a 1.5 frame per second video that no computer camera made after 1980 can produce even by default.

Search for recently deceased FBI agents. That should supply some clues.
