Collectivism doesn't work for a key reason: groups do not have a brain.
Groups have no agency. They are constructs based on a shared ideal between individuals. They are as ephemeral as any idea is, and the group dies as soon as that idea loses its support.

It convinces people that if you work hard enough for a group, the group will succeed to benefit all, rather than the reality of the group leader benefiting from the work they do.
