I've always felt like AI is only as good or as evil as the person programming it or utilizing it is. AI is not a living sentient being. It is an appliance, much like a toaster or a laptop. Useful, but must have human operation at some point. It is only evil, when it is used in an evil manner.

That is how we the people want AI to be. Just a tool to make our lives better and more efficient. However, the tech lords want to continue to push it to be the all seeing eye. They want to turn the world into a panopticon.
