looks like we are almost at checkmate here. The Trump and the Rs won't budge on the shutdown. The Ds have very few moves left to get money.
The Rs should pass a new CR that cuts everything 10% across the board and only present that to the Senate. Perhaps even just 2% and increase by 1% every week until they get the message

Maybe SNAP benefits should be taxed - FICA, Fed, State if applicable and Medicare. If benefits got taxed maybe the sheep would wake up faster!
Nah. The working people are already pay the taxes for the benefits. So if you tax the benefits, then the money to pay the taxes comes from the money given to those people for "welfare". This means that the working stiffs pay for the benefits AND for the taxes that would be assessed. I say go back to giving the people that actually NEED help the food that they need to feed to themselves and their children. Cut benefits for the rest.
Slick Willie actually had it right. He wanted welfare restricted to 2 years. At the same time the recipients would be required to work or get training in a field of employment. Funny how his own party was the biggest group against it.
