Ideally offshoring jobs or bringing in third world laborers economically saves us in labor costs, freeing our labor to do better work for higher pay
In practice though this either takes USA jobs elsewhere (offshoring) or imports the third world here (immigration) so I guess we are realizing the pure economics view is a little short-sighted
Importing laborers here is probably not viable
Offshoring jobs can work a bit so long as I'd say both that better jobs are created here and backup self-sufficiency plans are in place if needed
Example: say we offload growing our food more to another country. If they decide they don't want to feed us, now we have a security issue of getting fed. So to some extent this is another problem with the pure economics view, not factoring in some of these risks
So... he stumbled a bit on this one. Our smart Americans should be able to build the missles. Our "dumb" ones should be able to do "grunt work". But we should be able to intelligently offshore if we do it carefully (or to buy certain goods from other countries)
