Two things attract this type of people: money and more importantly cutting edge work. $20T or more investment on top of our own investment will make the US the playground these people are looking for. It will be a mix of onshore and offshore people, all working for American companies. There is often a significant in the same room component to this work, so the ratio will typically lean towards onshore.
Valid points, however foreign companies building manufacturing facilities here aren’t American companies and that is much of what is being talked about. Hell - they will all be automated to the hilt anyway right? So, how many lower-level / mid-level middle class jobs are we talking about.
I’ve been tied to product mfg. my whole career and we do still have the talent and skills to build properly. Dare I say innovate as well. I do also understand we have a knowledge gap though. The basket weaver degrees are being handed out like candy will always be useless, There are still sharp young engineers etc coming out of higher ed. Painting middle age and young people with a broad brush and saying foreigners are more skilled just kinda rubs me the wrong way in terms of MAGA (my interpretation anyway).
Agreed, our education system really needs a major overhaul. There is going to be a lot of jobs for legacy industry brain power. Efficiency in creating the products will be a key focus item which will require both innovation and practicality. I think that primarily comes from Americans.
