Iran president says capital move now a necessity as water crisis deepens
Iran’s capital must be moved because the country “no longer has a choice,” President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Thursday in remarks carried by state media, warning that severe ecological strain has made Tehran impossible to sustain.
Iran is in a severe drought. They badly need rains that usually start in late November, but even that won't be enough. Mismanagement of water and government corruption is to blame, as is lack of rainfall.
More than 50 days have passed since the start of Iran’s rainy season and more than 20 provinces have not yet had a drop. The number of dams that have less than 5% of their reservoir capacity had increased from eight to 32. 20 dams in Iran have zero water, totally dry.
In Tehran, only 1mm of rain has fallen this year, a once-in-a-century event (the capital’s average annual rainfall between 1991 and 2000 was 350mm, or roughly 12"). All this comes on top of five previous years of drought. The second half of November is normally the snow season in the capital. Snow cover has decreased by 98.6% nationwide compared with the same point last year.
Imagine having to abandon a city of over 9 Million people due to no water. It's getting to that point. Tehran may be the first major world city to evacuate, with climate refugees moving where they can.
Hahahaha - Climate Refugees- as if climate change was responsible for bad management of the water system and lack of reservoirs.
More turd world examples of breeding beyond resources.
