for melting or homogenization to work the items being added to the pot need to be of similar nature.
we can probably absorb some very small amounts of non-whites each year without changing the fundamental nature of the country but there would need to be few enough of them that the children of immigrants would be unlikely to find anyone from "the home country" to marry.
there should never be enough of any foreign race to form a "community"
