Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

My thought or observation for the day: The brainwashing was prevalent at least fifty years ago. Or maybe just getting started, IDK. I’ve been looking at my family’s very old cook books and searching old fashioned recipes. Even in the cookbooks they say margarine instead of butter. If you aren’t familiar with the history of margarine, look it up. That’s how far back the control goes. Summary by AI: (I know the story but I’m awful with putting together words and long winded) How the Invention of Margarine Disrupted Big Butter | by ... Margarine was invented in 1869 by Hippolyte Mège-Mouriès for Napoleon III as a cheap butter substitute from beef fat, named "oleomargarine," Ingredients: His original "oleomargarine" used beef fat (tallow), milk, and salt, with a jelly-like consistency. at some point it became more chemicals than food
In Sam’s last weekend a lady told her husband, Get buuuter He got margarine. Silently I said that ain’t Buuuter. I’m not sure where she was from but not from the south. I’m not laughing at her, I love hearing different accents.
No margarine in my house. I just fried Eastern North Carolina peanuts in beef tallow. Peanuts are cooked differently by regions, especially boiled peanuts. I’m making homemade food boxes for family. Since doing food elimination diet peanuts tastes like dirt to me. Not peanut butter, but just peanuts, yuck. I used to love pecans, even raw. Tried one today and it tasted like soap. Maybe God is telling me you don’t need these foods. First time in my life I didn’t eat boiled peanuts. I’m roasting pecans and doing pralines. Will be interesting to see if I still like them.
