POTUS & FLOTUS are visiting with the families of the Slain Soldiers & Interpreter and that is why they are taking their time to comfort the loved ones.
The names of the Slain:
Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar, 25, of Des Moines, Iowa (U.S. Army National Guard).
Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, 29, of Marshalltown, Iowa (U.S. Army National Guard).
Ayad Mansoor Sakat, 54, of Macomb, Michigan (U.S. civilian interpreter).
The two soldiers were members of the 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment of the Iowa National Guard, which had deployed to the Middle East in May 2025 as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. Ayad Sakat, an Iraqi-born interpreter, was known by the nickname "Eddie" to his colleagues and had previously worked with U.S. forces from 2003 to 2007.
Three other members of the Iowa National Guard were also injured in the attack, which officials attributed to a lone Islamic State (ISIS) gunman who was subsequently killed.
