I went through something similar a few years ago, just before they raised the “frivolous filing penalty” from $500 to $5000. If you can’t pay it all now and they do garnish paychecks, be sure you have something like the lien notice with the total amount they’re allegedly owed and keep track of what gets deducted. When it’s paid, call them and ask them to confirm they’ll be sending in a lien release. I’ve heard stories of them taking more than you owe and not refunding it.
