I think people have started off with the prior assumption that Charlie is necessarily dead. We know that the gunshot was a decoy, so now we know the event was rigged to distract us, why do we assume Charlie was killed at all?
Now its not my area, but I think you fake it with a remote controlled squib and a blood bag and tubing. If necessary, a silicone prothetic layer pasted over the neck to contain a tube. I've seen videos on how it's done in tho movies. Let's see if I can find one again.
If you watch the famous video closely, you can see the wound does not seem to be in one stable place on the neck, the video may have been altered post production. I have watched all the videos I can find, including all the behaviour after the shooting. I have also watched videos on the main competing ballistics theories.
I don't know what happened to Charlie exactly, I'm just pointing out what comes out as the most likely explanation for the data we have in my opinion.
If the apparent wound was an exit wound, it sure didn't look or behave as you'd expect. You'd expect a cone of spray and debris and a ragged exit wound, and you wouldn't expect a clean jet of blood IMO, you'd expect a really horrible mess.
I can't really get over the fact that everyone agrees that the 30.06 rifle shot wasn't what happened, that it was faked, but some people are still starting from the position that the injury happened. It's best to look at the video knowing that the rifle shooting was faked and considering the possibility that the injury was also faked, because a faked injury would actually be the most consistent with faking the rifle gunshot. It's the most obvious answer.
Hollywood fakes those kind of neck wounds all the time. I have a good friend that worked on the set of The Walking Dead and she told me how they do it. She thinks it's fake. She's been doing this for years and I believe her.
The blood didn't come out right for that I think.

Yeah that's basically where I'm at. "Valhalla."
But if it did happen, this is what I think happened.
We'll keep thinking, and we'll get there.
Did you not see the neck wound? In what way is that survivable?
I honestly think was a prosthesis, a Hollywood special effect like they use in action films and have done for years.
So how do you fake that kind of neck wound? We saw what happened.
