Nick was planning the murder for a VERY long time. Watch how "instinctively" Rod Reiner and the father, kiss directly on the lips. IMHO, behavior of sexual abuse done from an early age. Could Nick's actions, be result of sexual abuse, done to him, and why his "bottle -up" anger was unleashed in such a brutal manner ? Could this be the reason for the cover-up?

Edit: A witness actor on the set of Charlie "they were kissing on the lips which is weird"
