I am with you on that! We use about 700 gallons from October to April. I can’t remember when we’ve paid less than $3/gallon. I have to budget for it, knowing I am going to need it to stay warm.
Thermostat stays at 65°, lower when we’re not home, and 55° at night when we’re in bed under covers. 100+ year old house. I keep an extra layer on, either jacket or hoodie on inside during cold days. When it’s really cold, I will cut on the gas logs in the fireplace when we’re just sitting around reading or watching tv in the evenings.
Sounds about right. I put up plastic shrink wrap on all windows, heavy door curtain on exterior doors. I'm in the Poconos now though. I miss my wood heat when I used to live in Spokane. I just bought this house though but I probably will add a wood burner next year
