The Story.

Gladys Aurora López, a member of the National Party in the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), was seriously injured after being struck by an explosive device as she was about to enter the National Congress on the afternoon of Thursday, January 8, 2026.

The attack occurred amid heightened political tensions as members of the nationalist bloc and Parlacen deputies arrived at the Legislative Branch following a call by Congress President Luis Redondo to vote on a motion to recount votes from the general elections. Despite a strong police and military presence, disturbances erupted minutes earlier on the lower levels of the Congress building.
