OK, but this is a misrepresentation. The current NATO budget totals around $5 billion, I believe. The rest of the spending is on countries' own defence forces. So, if the US wants to spend nearly a $trillion on its Military then so be it. The rest of NATO does not owe them for that.
The fact that many NATO countries have been paying less than they promised on their own armies is a secondary issue. That money is not owed to the US.
