Having done research on Brazil nuts, the selenium content can vary widely depending on the region and soil conditions of where it’s grown. It’s nearly impossible to get a consistent dosage and more is not better with selenium. Too much selenium is really bad.
I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto‘s and instead of going on synthetic thyroid hormone, I’m working with my doctor on alternative options. I take selenium, inositol, and will soon be adding in aloe vera juice which have had some very positive results recently in reducing the antibodies that attack the thyroid.
Unfortunately everything I’m reading says not to take iodine with Hashimoto’s because increasing the thyroid function also increases the anti antibodies that attack the thyroid. Everything is such a delicate balance and so hard to get figured out :(
