Odd that this article doesn't mention the college cliff as a contributing factor. Colleges, themselves, know about it, and I'm sure most all have been working plans to mitigate the lower number of students available due to a decrease in birth rates as a result of the 2008 recession.
Now, why would the media not want to draw our attention to the decline in population? It's not like it's part of some nefarious agenda or anything.

Very good point. That is as big a factor as young people not wanting to waste time and money on worthless degrees.
