Their founder, Huey Newton, was a communist, thief, murderer, and cop killer. They were propped up by the 60's left-wing radicals of San Francisco. Their relationship with the left goes back to their founding. If they're splitting off now, it's because there's nothing in it for them. Probably because there's no money involved too.
