This is so very nice of Melania to do on our behalf. but the $ amount is pitifully small compared to the vast sums of money stolen from US through corruption all over the country.
100 times that is bid. I say take it away from Minnesota's "allowance".
A lot of folks don't know but on the day a foster kid turns 18, the foster "parents" no longer get a dime from the gov't and the kid and kicked to the street. It's obviously a tough situation for them. On top of that, they have no money for school, trade school, or to find a place. A lot of them end up homeless or trafficked.
Thankfully, a lot of churches are stepping up to help these young folks bridge the time between 18 and independence.
That is really a good choice. I joined at age 17. Had to take a massive pay cut, but it gave me grow up.and learn what young men around the country were like. Gained rank so fast I was still getting E-1 pay when promoted to E-4.
Hope she personally keeps an eye on where the money is going and gets a detailed accounting of how it is spent. If itβs not going directly into the pockets of these teens, it will somehow get grifted and stolen, as we have recently learned.

A few, very few, foster parents continue caring for the young adult. Most are just doing it for the money
That's correct. Sad but true.
Many foster kids go into the military because they don't have much other choice
