In the United States, the best-documented historical cases occurred among white populations in Central/Southern Appalachia, the Ozark Plateau, and isolated rural pockets of the Deep South. The same genetic patterns appear anywhere on Earth those conditions exist regardless of race. Africa is genetically the most diverse human population on the planet; widespread inbreeding is less likely there overall.
