π¨ WHAT ARE THEY HIDING IN ANTARCTICA!? - FIRST IRL STREAMER GOES LIVE ON STARLINK AND SECURITY SHUTS IT DOWN IMMEDIATELY
A streamer becomes the first IRL streamer to successfully livestream from Antarctica using personal Starlink. He isnβt sneaking into restricted zones or doing anything covert - heβs simply using his own satellite internet.
Moments later, a ship officer steps in and says the device is being confiscated and will only be returned after they leave Antarctica. Heβs told no independent internet devices are allowed - not just on this ship, but on all ships, and not even briefly on land. The shipβs internet is then cut off.
When he asks why, the only explanation given is βcybersecurity.β No law is cited. No specific threat is explained. The rule is described as absolute and non-negotiable.
- No livestreams.
- No independent connections.
- No exceptions.
If Antarctica is just ice, science, and penguins⦠why is independent internet treated like a threat?
I consider this often within the context of the contrast between sacrifice and individualization. Society does not function if no one is willing to provide the service of employment, yet no one is capable of becoming an individual unless they shed the chains tying them to the limited existence of specialized service.
Apologies if my thinking is unclear. I haven't had time to put these words to paper, until now.
