I've grafted tomatoes onto potatoes, grapefruit onto oranges and lemons. I would do more but those fruits don't grow well here. Not an ancient technique. Most all our fruits come from grafted fruits
Yes, the normal USA food supply is really not very tasty or healthy, but it ships well. I have been growing heirloom veggies organically & I have found many oriental veggies well suited to my climate. Because I live in a hot, humid subtropical climate with winters that have 1 or 2 days of freezing weather, growing fruit like apples, cherries, plums is just not practical.
