Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Three years ago today I almost left this world. For some reason God had other plans for me. I don’t why but I didn’t have an earth shattering moment wondering why. I personally think it was be available for my husband, daughter & (at the time two week old granddaughter) two granddaughters. I didn’t set out right away to make changes to my life. I do believe God heard my prayers just before going into emergency surgery. I met the doctor while I was n the operating table. I told him I had a two week old grandchild and I better get off the table alive. The last thing I remember was praying for me not to die. I’m not afraid of death, just not trying to leave anytime soon. I find it strange this event happened on February 18th. Only because that’s the day Dale Earnhardt Sr died. I don’t believe my life is any better than his life was! My husband and I went to a lot of races in the late 80s & early 90s. We never missed a race on TV. If we weren’t home the race was on the radio. Just like many other fans we were devastated. Now neither of us can tell you the names of the top drivers. Pulling for Dale was probably the first thing we bonded over. In the long run it’s doesn’t matter if it was Earnhardt’s death day or not. It just helps us remember the exact date. Now it’s a day I’m extra thankful to be alive. Thankfully I’m much more healthy and weigh less than I did three years ago. We spent the day with the grandkids. I can’t think of anything better to do.
If you don’t feel right get to the emergency room! The medical system may be very screwed up but most hospitals are good at saving people. Unfortunately they aren’t trying to save you with preventable advice such as teaching you what’s good to eat and exercise. After I got out and was going to follow up appointments and test I found out sepsis is very common. I had kidney stones in 2012 & passed at least one (not sure how many). They said another one was in my kidney. I thought nothing of it for many years because I wasn’t hurting. In 2023 after being in the ER several hours & flown to bigger hospital, I found out a stone was blocking my urethra. I had several uti over the previous two years. This is where natural medicine can go against you. I kept D-Mannose just in case I had uti symptoms. When I went to the doctor they didn’t think it was abnormal to have uti with ecoli. D-Mannose is a naturally occurring sugar found in fruits like cranberries, apples, and oranges, and is marketed as a dietary supplement to support urinary tract health. I do think it helps with UTI but maybe not if you have a big A stone blocking something.

Life is precious! Frens, take care of yourself!
Thank you for sharing Fren. You went through quite the journey. Praise God you’re here and spend precious time with grandkids and loved ones.
Thank you for your kind words fren. I thank him every day! Not only did he heal me, it made my husband & my relationship stronger. We have always had a good relationship. Only a few big arguments. It’s just different now after knowing it could have been so final. I’m extremely grateful.
