John 10:17-18, Jesus states, "No one takes it [my life] from me, but I lay it down of my own accord" (ESV). This highlights that his crucifixion was a voluntary sacrifice, not a helpless defeat, demonstrating his authority to both lay down his life and take it up again in resurrection.
