My SIL was born overseas, and her family immigrated here when she was three. She works for a local charter high school. She is basically the business manager. The teachers did this there but they bitched that they wanted to be paid. They were all in a meeting about it trying to bully her boss (who is a massive chicken IMHO - willing to bow at the drop of a hat because he gears being tagged with the -isms). She stood up in the meeting and loudly told them,'I am the only immigrant in this room.' She went on to describe how her parents came over. They waited and followed the legal process. how her dad started a corner grocery store - the kind thar are open on holidays for the milk, etc. - and ergo spent holidays away from his family. How her parents helped not only her and her siblings but their own extended family. No one at the school was denying their right to their opinion, but don't expect to be paid when you aren't doing your job.

The room got very quiet. She shamed the hell out of them - and they deserved it.
