The problem with Chinese EVs is they are subsidized by the CCP and they are cheap. All those companies aren't even making a profit. Every car they make they take a loss on, and it is substantial. There is no way any other company can compete. Some people only look at price when buying something as important as a car.
Those damn cars are exploding all over China. Not to mention they certainly can't handle our winters and they rust within 2 years. Russia has found out the hard way what trash those cars are. The Russians are pissed and don't want them. Chinese EVs aren't selling. People are either keeping their old cars or are trying to find used Western cars.
This is one area where I thought the Trump administration made a mistake by using IEEPA to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs when there were other mechanisms they could have used. BYD I believe is the only Chinese EV maker that filed a suit. Something about a time window in which to file and they got in by the deadline.
Well, you are smarter than the average bear. But many people are not and don't even think about asking about repair costs, much less the insurance. With Chinese EVs good luck trying to get repair parts. Even when they get the repair parts they often don't fit. It's a mechanics nightmare. I would never own one. I'm just fine with my almost 25 year old Jeep.

a while back, I looked at EV. Found out about the price and the battery and said, "No way."

They are nothing but CCP controlled incendiary devices. When the time comes, they will cause havoc.
Plus where I go there's no charging stations. You got to shit me to buy one.
