In this case, the reporting is accurate. A simple Google search will pull up dozens of stories and reports on the issue.
Apparently, the Navy's known about it going back to 2020, when it was cited in a GAO report. The GAO report also suggested fixing the problem right away, but it fell on deaf ears.
Knowing Sailors like I do, as I am a former Sailor myself, once it became clear there was an issue, I'm sure Ship's Company took it upon themselves to make it worse so it would be fixed faster.
However, since the whole system was designed wrong, the ship would have to be drydocked and torn apart to fix it. That would take years and probably cost billions more, so I doubt it'll be fixed any time soon.
