See I'm gonna play devil's advocate here. With coffee and chocolate in particular there is a real social and moral problem that makes this possibly an exception to the rule IF DONE right.

The MAIN reason behind wanting a new source of coffee and chocolate that doesn't involve traditional farming isn't about labor costs, its about slavery. A majority of coffee and cacao beans are farmed using literal slavery, often child slavery. Which is why a method of growing coffee and cacao in areas where you can control the labor force (which is hard to do in rural south america and west africa, the two major hubs for growing this stuff) is one of the holy grails of the food and beverage industry.

For years they've tried to make it viable with greenhouses and things like crispr tech, but its just hard to get it to scale in a way that would be profitable. So not they're turning to things like this because the first one that gets to say they're slave free while selling it at a REGULAR price is basically the one who wins the game
