Increasingly many are seeing the benefits of more direct and dare I say classical depiction of Monarchal Rule Domestically. Ala quick, direct, and decisive action. No interference or resistance from any branch of Government or local/State Governments. After decades of incompetence and continual decline under the management of the current prevailing system of laws, rules, and elected authority. Seriously many of the State and Local Governments make the Federal Government look competent, quick and responsive in comparison.
But since we are still Americans we simultaneously want all the benefits of decentralized Republicanism/Democracy. Like we were raised to believe in. But none of the drawbacks of decentralized Republicanism/Democracy and none of the drawbacks of essentially recreating Monarchy.
Under the Constitution as it currently stands and the current prevailing system of other laws and authorities. Trump and the Executive Branch don’t unilaterally have the power to make such changes domestically. Not without having to contend with both Congress, the State Governments, and the local Governments. Not to mention several centuries of legal tradition and the Bill of Rights. While I suppose technically he arguably does. At least in theory. Ala the insurrection act and other National Security laws etc. passed over the years.
But 100-150 years of legal tradition. Several Laws Congress passed after the Civil War restricting executive authority domestically. Plus cultural and political heritage. Have rendered such powers largely theoretical. They exist on paper. But the circumstances for actually activating them. And what the public response to actually using them would be is the wild card.
When it comes to Foreign Policy. Trump and the Executive have a far freer hand legally. Hence why he’s able to essentially kick the crap out of whoever internationally while all Congress can do is whine about it.
To rephrase an earlier comment I made.
