Never heard of him before. Looking into him, interesting stuff. He invented the terms conductance, permeability, inductance, impedance etc?
These are very commonly used in electrical engineering, but also used to model the economy as an electric circuit in the Quiet weapons for silent wars document from CIA. Probably coincidence since he coined it in 1860s.
I am not sure what role he played in corrupting science, but some of his techniques with calculus seem to be fascinating and I have never heard of those.
