I believe speculative buyers via all the market machinations, should be required to take physical possession of the items they bought! NOT use them for paper trades, speculating on prices.
In a free economy, the price is set by actual supply of the commodity and actual demand for the commodity.
E.g. make Barbara Streisand take possession of the pork bellies she speculated on! sauce a popular movie.
