It's very easy to figure out if you understand psychology.
If I'm guilty of something, and all my friends are guilty of something too. And my entire career depending on keeping that something a secret... And that something is so heinous and full of debauchery that the entire earth would shake in furious rage and disgust upon it's unveiling, I would most assuredly come out swinging against any entity that would try and disclose it.
