I can think of nothing more disheartening then hearing my grandmother cry about not being able to afford her home on her social security check because the property taxes were $4000.a year. {This was probably 25 years ago}
Mind you, the house was paid off for over 25 years at that point, and she was 75 years old.

I'll never forget, Grandma Angie.
What happened to her house?
The family helped her after my grandfather passed. She passed at 84 in the hospital but we were able to keep the house for her until then.
My sister now lives in that house.
