I've read many of the Tom Clancy books. My question is did Clancy get the stories from real occurrences or did some of the questionable real-life occurrences get their plans from Clancy?
Real occurrences. There are plenty of historical examples of the israelis disguising bombs as normal objects. The pager attack was not the first time they did that, merely the most sophisticated example of it.
