It seems that (get-all-you-can-while-you-can) mentality is actually a part of Somali culture (and is not unique). Not immediately taking as much as one can for oneself or one's family/tribe is failing to maximize the value of an opportunity. (This would explain stories of fraud, bribery and how new innovations [ex. a railroad] that are supposed to last/serve the community for years to come are dismantled and sold for scrap soon after they are completed rather than kept and maintained for long-term benefit for all.)
Note: this fundamental difference in morality/perspectives of "right and wrong" and "how things are done" - in business, politics and life - is just one of the reasons why these cultures' failure to assimilate creates MASSIVE problems and makes them incompatible with American culture.
