The entire Gaetz nomination was a ruse to get Bondi approved. Trump knew Gaetz wouldn't get approved. They schemed it up to make it rile up congress in outrage. That way they couldn't reject Bondi and would easily approve her thinking she was tame compared to Gaetz.

This was Trump's Art of the Deal at work. Ask for something ridiculous and then get what you actually want later.
