I'm a welfare worker in California and she said several things that makes me doubt that she's actually a worker. Some of the programs she mentioned are completely unrelated so she would had to have applied for three different jobs to cover the programs she mentioned. The amounts of benefits she mentioned are also way off.
I have a hard time believing she was ever a worker in California.
However, that being said, she is right about so many things. The people with their hair and nails done is true.
The "customers" (not "clients", but "customers" - can you believe that crap?) have a parking lot and the employees have a parking lot. Can you guess which one has the nicer newer cars?
And, like her, I don't blame the people for taking advantage of the situation. The way I see it is that the working class is toiling to make bread for our families and elected "officials" take our bread from us and toss it to the pigeons. And we are getting mad at the pigeons while electing politicians who, regardless of party, are not, and will never be, fixing the problem.
I have been doing this job for a long time and I have stories to tell. But when a parent lies to my face because she wants to feed her child, I'm okay with it. I'm not mad at the pigeons. But I think the world would be better off if we destroy the current system and rebuild it so that the pigeons acknowledge that there are other ways of feeding their children. And they always do seem to find another way. We (the politicians) made it too easy on them so it really would be foolish of them to not take advantage of something that's being thrust in their direction.
And, sadly, the people who really don't need it like college students who admit they smoke weed and just need the food stamps for snacks, or the people who admit that they need the money to give their daughter a kick-ass quinceanera are the demanding ones while the elderly, veterans, and homeless are polite and wait their turn even if they've gone days without eating.
