I would expect Trump to forgo the niceties behind closed doors and take the opportunity to tell Xi things he will not say publicly. This entire trip is built around that private meeting. That is when Party divisions and fracturing went into high gear. For a little while it appeared like a soft coup had taken place. Xi was stripped of some of his power - especially over the military. But Xi struck back and has been targeting the military with more purges. However, his move may have not brought the military in line as he intended. I would not think that Trump will be there without his own Chinese interpreter. Chinese interpreters in China are very mechanically literal in their translations, often missing the nuances of English and idioms. The US interpreters give more full bodied translations catching those turns of phrase and expressions. Xi Mingze would also be able to do that for her father plus he can trust her. Trump however, still needs his own person. Xi cannot be trusted.
Sorry, I don't buy that Trump and rest of them are somehow allies. I have been following them for too long to think anything different. Putin, maybe, and that is a big stretch. He is not that noble. But Xi no way. He is a hard core Maoist Red Communist. If he had his way, he would lock China down just like No Korea. He actually envies Kim in that regard. Xi does not understand or speak English. That is why he wants his daughter there. He can't trust anyone else. Xi has made a lot of enemies. Kim, he is an opportunist and does what he has to do to stay in the game. Not sure...she attended Harvard & POTUS may know her. Xi may be more fluent in English than we know.
