We just used a 55 ton crane, $300/hr., operator was maybe 28. He said he invested $10k in all his certs and training. He worked for us on a Saturday, and I know his Friday wrapped up about 7 pm.
Your paying for the crane out of that, but good income for the operator and owners.
I have kids who work in construction and longshoremen. They are begging for heavy equipment operators and laborers training is fast and available in most areas and ya gotta pass a drug test.
