FTA: Gender-affirming care for trans youth primarily refers to hormone therapy and puberty blockers used to treat gender dysphoria, which is a medical condition that can cause significant distress. Very few transgender youth seek and access surgeries. Restricting gender-affirming care is a top priority of the Trump administration, which has proposed regulations to greatly restrict the care for youth and stated its opposition to trans identity as a whole.

except, its not a medical condition, by current understanding

if it was a medical condition, there would be some medical criteria for diagnosing it.

but what we have instead is a diagnosis that is un-falsifiable,

and is 100% derived from the words and behaviors of their “patient”

anybody reading the words written here could easily look up the symptoms of gender dysphoria, and then go into a doctors / psychologists office and dishonestly / disingenuously repeat what you know about gender dysphoria symptoms,

and soon walk out with a diagnosis

and a prescription

and no real metrics for measuring success or failure

and an expectation that these prescriptions are “reversible”… implying that if the patient was to stop taking the prescription, then the effects would eventually wear off

But what that really means is that the patient will need to take a lifetime of these prescriptions or else they will revert back to their sex assigned at birth

So in other words, people who claim to already feel like they are the other sex, totally need to take a lifetime of weird drugs, in order to totally feel like the other sex

“gender dysphoria” isn’t even recognized as a “mental illness” per se, in the DSM-5

and is classified instead as a “condition”

so, here we have all these various narratives competing

so on the one hand, gender dysphoria is a super-distressful condition that requires life-saving, medically necessary treatments… for life

but on the other hand, very few people with gender dysphoria actually seek treatment for this debilitating and crippling medical condition?

i think society has gone way too far in “affirming” the delusions of some people
