What a melancholy scene. It hit me that his description of the crowd suggests the symptoms of mass depression, confusion, and being on the brink of hopelessness. That they were able to organize ANYTHING is probably a sign of what hope is possible under the present circumstances.
They are desperate for leadership. I always return to Proverbs 29:18-27..."Where there is no vision, the people perish." It is so true, in so many ways.
