Ray was a member of the 28th Marines who stormed the beaches of a tiny spit of an island named Iwo Jima. Ray, with too many of his brothers never made it to the beach as he was cut down in the bloody surf. His brothers of the U.S. Marines from the 3rd Platoon, E Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Regiment of the 5th Division take the crest of Mount Suribachi and planted the US flag for the iconic picture we all know. Ray is why I fight so hard against the demons!
