Growing up in the 50's, measles, mumps and chicken pox were still a thing. They were all bad news, but measles was the worst. It was rare if it killed you, but it could.
woke up with mumps one Christmas morning in the '50's...was a holiday of course, so mom called a neighbor who told her to give me a dill pickle to try to eat...of course my throat reacted and i choked on it, so the diagnosis was definitely MUMPS...thus began my distrust of adults, LOL!
I had all three as a child. Measles, German measles, mumps both sides, one side one week, other side next week. My sibling and I had a chicken pox party with my cousins. Lol
