French Farmers are still finding bombs from WW1. Key Facts About the Iron Harvest:The Volume: An estimated 20% of the millions of shells fired during WWI failed to detonate. As a result, farmers still recover about 300 to 900 tons of live ordnance every year.
Seems like a great project for a legitimate NGO (assuming such a thing actually exists) would be to develop some sort of tractor-mounted metal detector or ground penetrating radar system that was inexpensive and easily-deployed.
Unfortunately, just about everywhere there's been an armed conflict in the last century, there is unexploded ordinance left behind.
There's even cases of unexploded munitions in the USA too. Not far from me was a bombing range used for pilot training in WW2. The guy I bought my tractor from was paid stupid money to auger "test bores" on property before they broke ground - since the land they did practice bombing runs was turned into farmland and commercial zones...
Makes my hineyhole pucker a little every time I plant a row of trees and I'm boring holes ....So far about 500 and no Kabooms...yet 🤞🏻
