I don't know how many other people are thinking this, but I think that the war is part performative. I think that the US informs Iran of what they are targetting so that Iran can get people out of the way and I think that the converse is true too.
Notice that Trump swings between saying that the war is over and the war is on.
He also ruined Israel's plans to strike Iran when he struck Fordow last year, and he telegraphed that for a while, even in public.
