Mariupol’s civilian death toll is estimated between 22,000 and 100,000 during 2021-2023. Mayor Vadym Boychenko reported over 10,000 deaths in April 2022, with figures rising to 22,000–25,000 civilians by late spring 2022.
Human rights groups, including the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group, estimated approximately 100,000 victims by August 2023.
A 2024 study by Human Rights Watch and partners analyzed cemetery growth and satellite imagery, estimating at least 8,034 excess deaths between March 2022 and February 2023, noting this is likely an under-count.
The bombing of the Drama Theatre in March 2022 alone is estimated to have killed between 300 and 600 civilians sheltering inside.
Until Ukraine is completely crushed to the point of not attacking anymore... I would be reluctant to move there. If they are flying drones into Moscow and missiles into Russia... they can just as easily target Mariupol again.
But... but... it can't be... I heard from CNN that Ukrainia was winning and Hitler-Putin was losing.
