The necropsy on the NYC carriage horse has been completed, and the cause of death is poisoning by a non-native YEW plant.
At some point, the horse reached out ate some of the plant, and it killed the animal.
Why a fast-acting and highly toxic plant was put in this location has yet to be explored.
💔🤬
Supposing it’s something the Horse found in the park. Someone probably thought it looked good or interesting and planted them without regard or thought to consequences. Which is far from unusual or unexpected in the U.S. As the numerous invasive plant species that started as Garden Decorations can attest to.
Though there’s a Bill being pushed by activists try to get Carriages banned in Central Park and NYC at large. Though it’s meeting stiff resistance. So there’s every chance some Activist decided a Horse tragically dying on camera and posting in online would help overcome the resistance to the Bill. They’ll of course tag it as it dying from abuse or overwork or something.
I speculate VERY strongly it's about getting the horses out of the city. The laws and regulations for NY carriage horses are substantial. They get 5 weeks vacation, can only work in certain temps, they have health checks (same Vet as the mounted police), on road inspections, water troughs at their waiting area, etc, etc. They may spend off time in a stall, but so do racehorses.
The bill being pushed was defeated, then this incident, and pushing the bill again. Somebody really wants those horses GONE.
Damn....a mouthful or two kills a horse. Nasty.
So it is not the carriage horses that have to be eliminated after all.
No ma'm.
